Softball Game Preview: Williamsburg Blue Pirates vs. West Branch Warriors

The Williamsburg Blue Pirates will face off against the West Branch Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Williamsburg comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Williamsburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 36-14 to Northern Bedford County on Monday. Even if the Blue Pirates couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Bella Stromyar made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Davis, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, West Branch made sure to put some runs up on the board against Mount Union on Monday. The Warriors walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Trojans. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.

Makena Moore made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Thompson, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shasta Manahan, who went 1-for-3 with three runs.

West Branch's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Williamsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.
