Baseball Recap: West Takes a Loss

If West was feeling good fresh off their 17-4 takedown of Del Oro last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The West Vikings took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Spartans on Wednesday. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Cash Griffin was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Eric Lleyva also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

West dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for South, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

West has already played their next contest, a 10-3 defeat against Foothill on the 18th. As for South, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-3 victory against East Bakersfield on the 18th.
