Recap: Piedra Vista Panthers vs. Tohatchi Cougars

If the Piedra Vista Panthers were riding high off their 58-38 takedown of the Capital Jaguars last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Piedra Vista took a 62-47 bruising from Tohatchi on Saturday. Piedra Vista was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Tohatchi apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Piedra Vista had strong showings from Tyra Holyan, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Jaime Pierce, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Holyan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Jordis Fage was another key contributor, scoring eight points.

Piedra Vista's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Tohatchi, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedra Vista will take on Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gallup is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Tohatchi, they will head out on the road to face off against Kirtland Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Kirtland Central is ranked seventh, while Tohatchi is ranked 18th).
