Basketball Recap: Goretti Gael vs. Calvert Hall Cardinals
The Goretti Gael came tearing into Sunday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 60-54 W over Calvert Hall. Given Goretti's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Cardinals are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calvert Hall's loss came despite strong showings from Brendan Johnson and Tyrin Bizzelle. Johnson almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds, while Bizzelle scored 18 points along with six assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Asaiah Hamond, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Goretti pushed their record up to 11-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Calvert Hall, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Goretti will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Calvert Hall, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Friars at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th.
