Baseball Recap: Clarendon Beats Memphis for Their Third Straight Win

While Clarendon's win against Memphis wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Clarendon had just enough and edged out Memphis 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Broncos have posted against the Cyclones since April 5, 2022.

Mason Sims and Mason Allred were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Sims tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Allred struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Sims is becoming a predictor of Clarendon's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). At bat, Sims scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Allred went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Sims also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Kreed Robinson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Braylon Rice, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

The win (which was Clarendon's third in a row) raised their record to 6-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Memphis, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clarendon will challenge Floydada at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Floydada will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Clarendon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Memphis, they will take on Lockney at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
