Baseball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Haleyville's 21st in Last 23 Outings

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Haleyville had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Hokes Bluff Eagles as they made off with an 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Eli Cagle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Cagle was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Evan Cagle and Cooper McNutt did most of the damage at the plate: Evan went 2-for-4 with five RBI and one stolen base, while McNutt went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Cagle a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Marbutt, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Haleyville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Haleyville is on a roll lately: they've won 21 of their last 23 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Hokes Bluff, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-14.

Haleyville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair will be back at it again later today.
