Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Falls Short Against Ranked Amity Regional

Notre Dame faced Amity Regional in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Green Knights fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Green Knights in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost five in a row.

Gehrig Footit was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alex Riga and Brandon Skerritt stepped up to the plate in a big way. Riga went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Skerritt went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Burr, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Notre Dame's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Amity Regional, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season.
