Chaparral dropped their record down to 14-10 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Horizon Huskies by a score of 4-3. Devin Long was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chaparral saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Molina, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
As for Horizon, they pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch.
On Horizon's side, they got a great performance from Rio Ryu as he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave Ryu a new career-high.
At the plate, Ethan Trahan was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Robbins, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
While Chaparral had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
