Baseball Game Preview: Big Bear Bears vs. Excelsior Charter Eagles

For the second straight game, Big Bear will face off against Excelsior Charter. The Bears will head out to face off against the Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Big Bear is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.

Big Bear made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Excelsior Charter, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bears were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Eagles on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jackson Wortham was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Big Bear's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 4-2 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Wortham was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Big Bear got a massive performance out of Brennen Berge, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-5. Those three runs gave Berge a new career-high. Kobe Alvarez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Big Bear was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Excelsior Charter is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13. As for Big Bear, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
