Baseball Game Preview: Riverside Beavers vs. Shaker Heights Red Raiders

The Riverside Beavers will take on the Shaker Heights Red Raiders at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Riverside gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Cleveland Heights as they made off with a 13-1 win. The Beavers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Zach Koenig looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Austin Kalb was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Riverside is undefeated when Kalb posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Wittreich, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Shaker Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 7-3 to Twinsburg.

Shaker Heights' loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Riverside, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.

Riverside took their victory against Shaker Heights in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 14-6 score. Do the Beavers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
