Baseball Recap: Newton Triumphs

While Newton's win against Casey-Westfield wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Warriors 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.

Carson Barthelme spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. He has become a key player for Newton: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Newton's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was David Ferguson, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Newton's win bumped their record up to 15-11. As for Casey-Westfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will take on Edwards County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Casey-Westfield, they will square off against Heritage at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
