Recap: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. Coronado Cougars
The Discovery Canyon Thunder entered their tilt with the Coronado Cougars with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Discovery Canyon pulled ahead with a 48-47 photo finish over Coronado. Given Discovery Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Coronado is ranked 237th), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Discovery Canyon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Jones, who scored 11 points. Jones continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Michah Rohacs was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Seth Enoch, who scored 14 points along with three steals. The game was Enoch's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jalyn Jarboe, who scored ten points.
Coronado struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Discovery Canyon pushed their record up to 6-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Coronado, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Discovery Canyon will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Coronado won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Doherty at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Doherty is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.6 points per game.
