The Clay Blue Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clay's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so St. Augustine's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Clay came up short against St. Johns Country Day and fell 6-3. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
JC Rosette made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against the Falcons as they made off with a 6-0 win. The Yellow Jackets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 20th (when they won 10-2).
Kaiden Blakney made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2025.
In other pitching news, Dalton Greene looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. St. Augustine is 5-1 when Greene allows two or fewer earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise.
Blakney wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Kirk, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. Another was Drew O'Quinn, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
St. Augustine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Clay now has a losing record of 9-10. As for St. Augustine, their record is now 11-9.
Clay beat St. Augustine 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
