Soccer Recap: Marion Comes Up Short

Marion had to start their season on the road on Wednesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was the Alton Redbirds who were credited with the victory. The Alton Redbirds got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to the Marion Wildcats' two. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Marion of the 1-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2019.

Eduardo Perez and David Tallman scored both of Marion's goals, which were season-firsts for both players.

Marion and Alton will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Wildcats are set to square off against their familiar foe Centralia at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Alton will face off against rival Belleville East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
