Baseball Recap: Willow Spring Storm vs. Middle Creek Mustangs

Willow Spring had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it 12. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Middle Creek Mustangs. The Storm were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 9-0.

Willow Spring got a good showing from Chadburn Turner, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Furthermore, Turner didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2025.

At the plate, Gio Tafalla and Colby Harbin stepped up to the plate in a big way. Tafalla went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Harbin went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Jason Sowers also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Middle Creek, the victory got them back to even at 2-2. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.

On Middle Creek's side, Evan Broussard looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Mason Morin was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Sessoms was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

Willow Spring wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 5-3 victory against Panther Creek on the 10th. As for Middle Creek, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Harnett Central on the 11th.
