Baseball Recap: Simla Drops Season-High Score on Elbert

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Simla). Everything went their way against the Elbert Bulldogs on Thursday as they made off with a 16-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cubs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.

Tatum Kocerha made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Simla let Caston Cox and T.J. Eurich run wild. Cox scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Eurich scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Cox has posted since back in April of 2024. Logan Rayfield was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Simla hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elbert struck out seven times.

Simla's record now sits at 4-2. As for Elbert, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Simla beat the Bulldogs by a score of 11-0 later that day.
