Softball Recap: Coalfield Yellow Jackets vs. Wartburg Central Bulldogs
Coalfield extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-6. They fell 6-3 to the Wartburg Central Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-2 back in March.
Addy Carson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Gracie Davis made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
As for Wartburg Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.
On Wartburg Central's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Shelby Kelly gave up three earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Wartburg Central got a big performance out of Madi Aslinger, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Braylen Melton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coincidentally, Coalfield and Wartburg Central will both be playing Oliver Springs the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will host the Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Yellow Jackets will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
