The Wakefield Wolverines will be taking part in a tournament against the Athens Drive Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last four games Wakefield has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Wakefield will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Middle Creek, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Wolverines won by a run and slipped past the Mustangs 4-3.
Tyler Rotellini looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Wakefield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Piscorik, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Athens Drive faced off against Millbrook on Thursday. The Jaguars lost 15-6 to the Wildcats.
Paul Harrell was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Wakefield pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Athens Drive, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wakefield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Athens Drive struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Wakefield's way against Athens Drive in their previous matchup back in March, as Wakefield made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
