Basketball Recap: Cookeville Cavaliers vs. LaVergne Wolverines
The Cookeville Cavaliers entered their tilt with the LaVergne Wolverines with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Cookeville claimed a resounding 70-21 win over the Wolverines on the road. Given Cookeville's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Wolverines are ranked 287th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Cookeville to victory were Charlie Roby and Cara Lee Gilbert. Roby scored six points along with five steals, while Gilbert scored 11 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabel Garcia, who scored six points.
Cookeville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for LaVergne, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.
Cookeville will head out on the road to take on the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lebanon is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for LaVergne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Stewarts Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
