Basketball Game Preview: Sheyenne Mustangs vs. Shanley Deacons

Sheyenne has gone 8-2 against Shanley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Sheyenne Mustangs will square off against the Shanley Deacons at 7:15 p.m. One thing working in Sheyenne's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Last Tuesday, Sheyenne didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Horace, but they still walked away with a 80-74 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Mustangs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Horace are ranked 18th).

Meanwhile, Shanley came up short against Fargo South on Friday and fell 71-62. The Deacons have struggled against the Bruins recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Sheyenne is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points over those games. As for Shanley, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-16.

Sheyenne beat Shanley 74-63 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sheyenne since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
