Baseball Recap: Reading Wins Going Away Against Deer Park

Reading had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Deer Park Wildcats a 16-0 shutout. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Blue Devils this season.

Garrett Minks made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Minks was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Connor Davis was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Charlie Hess, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Reading always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Reading's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-3. As for Deer Park, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Reading will head out on the road to square off against Colerain at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Deer Park will be paying especially close attention to the Blue Devils' game: after the Blue Devils faces off against the Cardinals, they'll take on Deer Park again at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
