Football Recap: Thomas Sumter Academy Comes Up Short

Thomas Sumter Academy extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-7. They took a hard 24-6 fall against the Orangeburg Prep Indians. The Generals lost against the Indians in their previous head to head back in November of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 41-0 score last time.

Despite the loss, Thomas Sumter Academy still got an impressive performance from Sam Petrauschke, who picked up 156 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jace Williams was another key player, having thrown for 351 yards and onetouchdown.

As for Orangeburg Prep, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.3 points on average over those games.

A big part of Orangeburg Prep's victory came down to the chemistry between Cholly Williams and his top target Tilden Riley. Williams threw for 338 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt while Riley picked up 250 receiving yards and three scores. Riley's longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards.

Thomas Sumter Academy and Orangeburg Prep are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Generals will take on Bethesda Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blazers' defense has only allowed nine points per game this season, so Thomas Sumter Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Orangeburg Prep, they will head out to take on Pee Dee Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
