Volleyball Recap: April Vences' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rocky Mountain Prep SMART over Nederland

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART lost against Nederland back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ocelotls took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.

While Rocky Mountain Prep SMART ultimately came up short, they really made Nederland work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-21, 15-25, 27-25.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was April Vences, who had nine aces and six kills. She has been hot recently, having posted seven or more aces the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alessandra Irazoque, who had eight kills, seven digs, and four aces.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Nederland, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART has already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against DSST: Cedar on the 22nd. As for Nederland, they will square off against Two Roads Charter School at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
