Softball Recap: Fairfield Has No Trouble Against Greenwood

The Fairfield Knights made easy work of the Greenwood Wildcats on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Knights have won three matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddy Payne made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Addison Welch was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Klinedinst, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood only managed three hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Fairfield and bumps their season record up to 3-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Greenwood, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairfield will challenge York County Tech at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Greenwood, they will be playing at home against Susquenita at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
