Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Baker Mountaineers vs. Burlington-Edison Tigers

Mt. Baker is 0-9 against Burlington-Edison since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. Mt. Baker will welcome Burlington-Edison at 4:30 p.m.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Mt. Baker's offense. They came up short against Nooksack Valley on Thursday, falling 10-0. The Mountaineers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Meanwhile, Burlington-Edison's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let Cascade get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Cash Cullop made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cullop was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those runs were his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Zak Fleshman looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Jakson Granger was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4. Granger is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Jace Taxdahl also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Burlington-Edison's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average this season. As for Mt. Baker, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Mt. Baker might still be hurting after the 18-2 loss they got from Burlington-Edison when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Mt. Baker avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
