Softball Recap: Muskegon Takes a Loss

Muskegon extended their losing streak to ten on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Mona Shores Sailors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Big Reds of the 15-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Mona Shores, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Mona Shores' part, Lilli Baskin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Baskin has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Mona Shores let Hailey Youmans and Jaslene McHenry run wild. Youmans went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, while McHenry went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Youmans a new career-high. Emma Mettler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Mona Shores will be playing at home against Grandville at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Muskegon will be paying especially close attention to the Sailors' match: after the Sailors face off against Traverse City West, they'll take on Muskegon again at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
