Baseball Recap: Itasca Wins Going Away Against Rio Vista

Itasca made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Rio Vista, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wampus Cats blew past the Eagles 13-7 on Friday. Considering the Wampus Cats have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brayden Mears made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jacob Gurrusquieta was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Gage Bassett, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Itasca always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .513 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Itasca has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Rio Vista, they dropped their record down to 8-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Itasca will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
