Baseball Recap: Northglenn Comes Up Short

Northglenn had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it five. They fell 10-7 to the Westminster Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on April 1st.

Josh Dreiling was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Northglenn: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dom Ibarra, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

As for Westminster, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.

On Westminster's side, Robert Atencio made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Atencio has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brian Fieros, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northglenn will venture away from home to take on Boulder at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westminster, they will head out to square off against Prairie View at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunderhawks will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight.
