Softball Recap: Pine Grove Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Pine Grove got themselves on the board against Mahanoy Area on Thursday, but Mahanoy Area never followed suit. They blew past the Golden Bears 15-0. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Jamie Dinger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Callee Leffler and Meadow Umbenhauer did most of the damage at the plate: Leffler went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Umbenhauer went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Umbenhauer has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lily Flynn, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Pine Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mahanoy Area didn't got any hits.

Pine Grove pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Mahanoy Area, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
