Basketball Recap: The Covenant Comes Up Short

If The Covenant was feeling good fresh off their 68-28 takedown of Virginia Episcopal School on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Covenant Eagles took a 56-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carlisle Chiefs on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-37 back in February.

Loss or not, The Covenant got some senior leadership from Makayla Hargrove and Delaney Poindexter. Hargrove posted ten points along with six boards and five steals, while Poindexter scored 15 points. Hargrove has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Kerrigan Poindexter was another key player, putting up five points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Ja'La Niblett was her usual excellent self, posting 24 points for Carlisle. Niblett continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zarah Gray, who had ten points.

The Covenant's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Carlisle, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

The Covenant has already played their next matchup, a 66-28 win against Norfolk Collegiate on the 25th. As for Carlisle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-25 victory against Wakefield School on the 26th.
