Softball Game Preview: McCall-Donnelly Vandals vs. Fruitland Grizzlies

The McCall-Donnelly Vandals will take on the Fruitland Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

McCall-Donnelly lost 21-1 to Cole Valley Christian on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Vandals in their meetings with the Chargers: they've now lost three in a row.

McCall-Donnelly saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Val Sofaly, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Ariana Schreiner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, Fruitland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against New Plymouth, falling 18-0.

Fruitland's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for McCall-Donnelly, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.

Everything went McCall-Donnelly's way against Fruitland in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as McCall-Donnelly made off with a 12-4 victory. Will the Vandals repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
