Basketball Recap: Marriotts Ridge Takes a Loss

If Marriotts Ridge was feeling good fresh off their 71-33 takedown of Glenelg last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Marriotts Ridge took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oakland Mills Scorpions. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Marriotts Ridge came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Oakland Mills is ranked 280th).

Despite the defeat, Marriotts Ridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Blake Willingham shot 5-for-9 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Willingham has scored all season. Restia Whitaker was another key player, putting up 14 points and six assists.

Marriotts Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Oakland Mills, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10.

Marriotts Ridge will face off against Poly at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Oakland Mills, they will welcome Guilford Park at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
