Soccer Game Preview: Bishop Verot vs. Canterbury

The Bishop Verot Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Canterbury Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Bishop Verot will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals back in December of 2024, then bounced right back against Seacrest Country Day on Tuesday. Bishop Verot's defense stepped up to hand Seacrest Country Day a 9-0 shutout. That nine goal margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.

Meanwhile, Canterbury beat Community School of Naples 2-0 on Tuesday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Seahawks are ranked 409th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dusty Dwyer and Tristan Choui scored both of Canterbury's goals, bringing their combined season tally to three goals.

Bishop Verot has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-0-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 24 goals over those six matches. As for Canterbury, their win bumped their record up to 11-1-1.

Bishop Verot came out on top in a nail-biter against Canterbury when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop Verot since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
