Basketball Recap: Cape Fear Takes a Loss

Cape Fear lost against South View back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The matchup between the Cape Fear Colts and the South View Tigers didn't end well, with the Cape Fear Colts falling 61-44. While losing is never fun, the Colts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Tigers are ranked 39th).

When it comes to explaining why Cape Fear lost, don't look at Shanel Sutton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 16 points and 17 boards. Sutton is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last 15 games she's played. Olivia Arnette was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Cape Fear smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 48 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

South View's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordynn Parnell, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Danauje Brooks, who went 9-for-21 en route to 24 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Cape Fear now has a losing record of 9-10. As for South View, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-4.

Cape Fear didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-42 loss against Lumberton on the 13th. As for South View, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 52-42 victory against Jack Britt on the 14th.
