STORYLINES

* The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches pegged Westlake No. 1 in its preseason 6A Top 25. For the first time in years, there wasn't a Lone Star State team that jumped off the page as a preseason national Top 25 candidate. When in doubt, defer to the TABC.

* Mayer blew up over the summer with Houston Hoops on the EYBL circuit, garnering offers from Baylor, Tennessee, Texas, and Texas A&M among others. Westlake replaced all five starters from 2014-15 a year ago and Mayer was one of three sophomore starters that led the Chaparrals to a 30-win season.
