Softball Recap: Lake Gibson Has No Trouble Against Discovery

There's no place like home for Lake Gibson, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. Everything went their way against the Discovery Spartans on Tuesday as the Lake Gibson Braves made off with an 18-0 win. The contest marked the Braves' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Andrea Lewis was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Vazquez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Harwell, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Lake Gibson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery only posted an OBP of .300.

The win got Lake Gibson back to even at 3-3. As for Discovery, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Gibson will venture away from home to take on Fort Meade at 7:30 p.m. on March 11th. One thing working in Fort Meade's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Discovery, they will head out on the road to face off against Santa Fe Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Fe Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Discovery's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
