League recap: Edgewood Academy tops Autauga Academy to extend winning streak

AISA AA Region 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Edgewood Academy extended the longest winning streak in AISA AA Region 1 this week by beating Autauga Academy, 46-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Edgewood Academy took down the Generals 46-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Evangel Christian Academy's dynamic duo of David Whitlow and Jay Grice proved tough for Kingwood Christian to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Whitlow threw for 256 yards and one touchdown and Grice had 119 yards receiving. Zach Bruce helped Evangel Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching six balls for 80 yards.

Connor Gillespie was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 49 yards on 14 carries as Springwood fell to the Lions. Michael Vo also contributed to the rushing game with 48 yards on the ground.

Evangel Christian Academy's Whitlow and Grice have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Whitlow has thrown for 737 yards this season, while Grice, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 13 catches for 315 yards. The Wildcats' Gillespie leads the league in rushing yards with 391.

A big matchup in AISA AA Region 1 this week will be when Autauga Academy takes on the Lions. As it stands, Chris Honeycutt's team is in second, while Evangel Christian Academy is in fifth.

Crenshaw Christian Academy led the league in scoring this week after putting up 50 points on South Montgomery County Academy.
