Baseball Recap: Von Steuben Comes Up Short

Von Steuben fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lane Tech on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Champions by a score of 7-6. The Panthers have struggled against the Champions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Christian Kobayashi was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Von Steuben's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-3-2 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kayin Timble, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Von Steuben's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4-2. As for Lane Tech, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Von Steuben will welcome Ogden International at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Ogden International will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Von Steuben surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lane Tech, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Whitney Young at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
