Basketball Game Preview: Niwot Cougars vs. Frederick Golden Eagles

Niwot hasn't had much luck against Frederick recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Niwot Cougars will face off against the Frederick Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Thalia Almaraz and Zoe Wittler.

On Tuesday, Niwot ended up a good deal behind Monarch and lost 61-43. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Coyotes are ranked 48th).

Meanwhile, Frederick came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 51-50 W against the Hawks.

Frederick pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Niwot, they now have a losing record at 10-11.

Niwot was taken down by Frederick 63-26 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Thankfully for Niwot, Gabby Jima (who went 8 of 13 to rack up 21 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
