Softball Recap: Castle Rock Rockets vs. Kalama Chinooks
Castle Rock had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-19 to make it four. They came up short against the Kalama Chinooks, falling 20-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chinooks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.
As for Kalama, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
For Kalama's part, Katelynne Jones made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Jones has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kalama got a massive performance out of Ada Schlangen, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Colbie Manninen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Castle Rock will take on Rochester at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kalama, they will host Woodland at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chinooks will need to watch out since the Beavers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
