Softball Recap: Puyallup's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Puyallup dropped their record down to 8-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell 5-2 to the Emerald Ridge Jaguars. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.

Kiera Thomas spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Puyallup saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Emerald Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Emerald Ridge's side, Alanna Wirtala made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits (and only one walk). Wirtala was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Abygale Redwine was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Stolmeier, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Puyallup has already played their next match, a 3-1 loss against Sumner on the 21st. As for Emerald Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 19-1 win against Curtis on the 21st.
