Football Recap: Montwood Takes a Loss

Montwood had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-6 to make it five. They were outmatched by the Franklin Cougars and fell 84-49. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (47), the Rams still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Montwood lost, don't look at Damian Briano. Despite the final result, he threw for 469 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 34 yards. Briano is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for four or more in each of the last five games he's played. Adrian Cortinas was Briano's top target, picking up 147 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

As for Franklin, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points over those games.

Ernie Powers had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 289 yards and seven scores while picking up 18.1 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Atreyu De La Riva, who rushed for 188 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries.

Montwood didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-21 loss against Pebble Hills on the 10th. As for Franklin, they have also already played their next game, a 49-26 defeat against Eastwood on the 10th.
