Recap: Northeast Vikings vs. Gibbs Gladiators

The Northeast Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They were dealt a 61-13 defeat at the hands of Gibbs. Northeast was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-3.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Northeast struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Leading Gibbs to victory were Messiah Cook and Peyton Flournoy. Cook scored 19 points, while Flournoy scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Cook scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Zacoya Grant, who scored ten points.

Northeast's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.7 points per game. As for Gibbs, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeast will take on Hollins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Hollins focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Gibbs, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Largo at 8:00 p.m. Largo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 368th, while Gibbs is ranked 115th).
