League recap: Athens Academy wins, gets boost in standings

A Region 8 recap September 24, 2013

Athens Academy was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in A Region 8. Earlier in the week, the Spartans triumphed over Our Lady of Mercy 20-13.

Pinecrest Academy scaled the state rankings by moving to 358 from 385 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Paladins climbed the ranks as a result of topping Lakeview Academy 43-3.

Hebron Christian Academy's Conner Holliday and Jacob Harper have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Holliday has thrown for 375 yards this season, while Harper, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 6 catches for 178 yards. Stanley Williams from George Walton Academy leads the league in rushing with 233 yards.

The Lions are currently in fourth, while Pinecrest Academy is in second.

Prince Avenue Christian led A Region 8 in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Glascock County.
