Coginchaug Regional has gone 9-1 against Valley Regional recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Blue Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Coginchaug Regional's offense. They lost 9-0 to Haddam-Killingworth on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, Valley Regional entered their tilt with Hale Ray on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Noises. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since April 5th.
Paige Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off 14 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carley Spearrin, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Nataly Pavon-Avila was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Valley Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hale Ray only posted an OBP of .439.
Valley Regional's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Coginchaug Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Coginchaug Regional took their win against Valley Regional in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
