Football Recap: Salem Academy Starts Season with Loss on the Road + How To Watch

Salem Academy had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were beaten by the Gervais Cougars 52-8 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 60-27 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Taiki Kawamura threw for 112 yards on seven of 21 attempts. Judson Moody was his top target, picking up 38 receiving yards.

Johnny Mariano was a one-man wrecking crew For Gervais. as he rushed for 85 yards and one score on only six carries.

Gervais has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Salem Academy and Gervais will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Crusaders will face off against rival Santiam Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Gervais is set to square off against their familiar foe Yamhill-Carlton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
