Volleyball Recap: Wayland Academy Comes Up Short

Wayland Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss. They fell 2-0 to the Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Big Red of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Reina Schroeckenthaler paced Wayland Academy's offense, picking up seven kills. Schroeckenthaler got some help from Ella Kikkert and her 17 assists. Amily Cho controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Cambria-Friesland had a senior duo take command as Janell Villareal had eight digs, three aces, and one block and Enya Heller had six aces. With that strong performance, Heller is now averaging an impressive 2 aces per game.

Wayland Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Cambria-Friesland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-14.

Wayland Academy has already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Williams Bay on the 11th. As for Cambria-Friesland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Hustisford on the 11th.
