Basketball Recap: Berwick Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Shelby Taylor and Azyria Garrison

After flying high against Donaldsonville on Saturday, Berwick came back down to earth. The Berwick Panthers took a 36-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. James Wildcats on Saturday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last nine times they've met.

Berwick's loss came despite strong showings from Azyria Garrison and Shelby Taylor. Garrison dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards, while Taylor posted two points and nine rebounds. That was a full 50% of Berwick's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Berwick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games.

Berwick's loss dropped their record down to 20-9. As for St. James, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-10.

Coming up, Berwick will square off against Central Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Berwick is on a three-game streak of home wins, Central Catholic a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for St. James, they are taking a road trip to square off against South Lafourche at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
