Carey hasn't had much luck against Mohawk recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Carey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Carey was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lima Central Catholic, sneaking past 9-8.
Danika Hanna made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hanna was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carey got a massive performance out of Autumn Bouillon, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ashley Hohman, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Carey kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Mohawk entered their tilt with Upper Sandusky on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They had just enough and edged out the Rams 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted against the Rams since April 11, 2023.
Aubrey Gottfried spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Katie Woodland was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaci Steyer, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Mohawk's record now sits at 19-3. As for Carey, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Carey hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mohawk struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Carey suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Mohawk in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
