Basketball Recap: Sumner Academy's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Sumner Academy came into Friday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past the Bishop Ward Cyclones with a 61-57 win on Friday. For the Sabres, this counts as revenge for the 61-50 victory the Cyclones walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2021.

Bishop Ward's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quintayvion Pike, who posted 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Pike is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Richard Wells, who scored 11 points and five boards.

The win got Sumner Academy back to even at 6-6. As for Bishop Ward, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-10.

Looking ahead, Sumner Academy will head out to face off against Atchison on Friday. As for Bishop Ward, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
